Introduction to Imago Relationship Therapy

PART 1

– Dr. Kalanit Ben-Ari

Fri, 10 July 2020

10:00am – 12:00pm BST

Imago Relationship Therapy is a research-supported, systematic theory of relationship therapy developed by Harville Hendrix, Ph.D., author of Getting the Love you Want: a Guide for Couples, and Helen LaKelly Hunt, Ph.D. Imago theory powerfully synthesizes major aspects of depth psychology, object relations, systems theory and humanistic-existential theory into a comprehensive approach to working with relationships.

Imago Relationship Theory helps us to understand why we pick the partners we do and why intimate relationships can be so challenging for so many of us. Imago Relationship Therapy gives clients the skills and understanding they need to turn their conflicts into opportunities for the repair of current and past relationship hurts.

The series of Introduction to Imago parts 1-4 are a great ‘taster’ of the approach for new people, and a useful refresher for experienced Imago therapists. Please note that to become an Imago Certified therapist you need to attend the full training course (12 days) and further requirements. Goals in Therapy:

Actualising Our Deepest Directions

– Mick Cooper

Sat, 4 July 2020

10:00am – 5:00pm BST

This workshop is the fourth in a series of workshops from Mick Cooper, the feedback to date is excellent with over 95% satisfaction reported by previous participants

This interactive workshop provides participants with an opportunity to develop their understanding of goals in counselling and psychotherapy, and to deepen their skills and knowledge in this area.

The workshop is particularly oriented towards counsellors and psychotherapists from humanistic or integrative backgrounds: who are interested in understanding their clients as agentic and purpose-oriented beings, and wary of more mechanistic or ‘outcome-oriented’ goal-based approaches.

The workshop starts by introducing the philosophical concept of ‘directionality’—that human beings are always oriented towards future possibilities—and looks at how this can be applied to an understanding of self. The workshop then explores what has been learnt from the psychological research about the nature of goals and goal processes (for instance, distinguishing between ‘approach’ and ‘avoidance’ goals). It then goes on to a more practical exploration of working with goals, including skills practice and video demonstrations, to show when and how goal-oriented practices can be useful.
